Charles Huron Kaman
Charles H. Kaman was born on 15th June 1919, in Washington D.C. as the oldest son of German immigrants. He graduated “magna cum laude” from the Catholic University of America with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. With the age of 26, he founded the “Kaman Aircraft Corporation” after raising $ 2,000 and began designing his own helicopters, with the latest, the K-1200 “K-Max”, presently attracting worldwide attention. During the years “Charlie”, as he is called by his friends, has built up one of the greatest high-technology industries in America. The Kaman Corporation, as it is called today, has diversified into other industries far beyond the air and space technology. When Charles Kaman as a guitar player was not satisfied with his guitar, he designed the “high-tech” Ovation Balladeer and steadily grew up to the leading guitar manufacturer in the U.S. He and his wife, Roberta, were also successful in breeding a German Shepherd. The Kaman dogs are breeded in the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and are trained to be suited for work as first-class guide dogs for the blind.
Charles H. Kaman died on 31st January 2011 in Bloomfield/Connecticut.
