The Lockheed Corporation (originally Loughead Aircraft Manufacturing Company) was an American aerospace company. Lockheed was founded in 1912 and later merged with Martin Marietta to form Lockheed Martin in 1995.
Lockheed AH-56A Cheyenne
The Lockheed C-840 (AH-56 Cheyenne) won the competition of the US Army’s AAFSS (Advanced Aerial Fire Support System) programme in 1965. Until 1968, 10 pre-production models were delivered and 375 orders were placed. But in the meantime the US Army had already acquired the Bell AH-G HueyCobra. When the Cobras were available in Vietnam in 1969, the order for the AH-56 Cheyenne was cancelled.
In order to accelerate the speed of that helicopter, an additional pusher propeller was built in.
